The Dream Concert, which started in 1995 and has grown into the center of K-pop festivals, will be held in Busan in May with a scale of 50,000 people.
Through this, the government plans to pray for the success of the 2030 Busan World Expo (World Expo) and raise public enthusiasm.
According to related ministries on the 12th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the ‘2023 Climate Industry International Exposition (WCE) Summary’ at the 3rd meeting of the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Bidding Committee’ held on the 10th.
The meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, co-chairman, and Chey Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The 2023 Climate Industry International Expo is a large-scale event related to climate and energy jointly hosted by the government and Busan City at BEXCO, Haeundae-gu, Busan for four days from May 24th. The government plans to promote this expo as a “national representative event” and use it as a venue for attracting the Busan Expo.
In particular, the Ministry of Industry decided to replace the closing ceremony of the 2023 Climate Industry International Expo, which will be held from 6:00 pm on May 27, with a dream concert event to maximize the national boom-up and global 'Busan sales' activities.
The venue is the Busan Asiad Main Stadium, where the ‘BTS concert for the Busan World Expo’ was held in October last year. The Ministry of Industry estimates that 50,000 spectators will visit the concert. Five months ago, a BTS concert attracted 52,000 people (based on the number of visitors to the main stadium).
The Dream Concert, hosted by the Korea Entertainment Producers Association, is the largest K-pop event in Korea, celebrating its 29th this year.
Except for the event held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do in November 2017, 100 days before the opening of the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, most of them were held at Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul.
The government's decision to hold the Dream Concert in connection with the Gifu Industry International Expo to attract the Busan Expo is interpreted as a measure to increase public enthusiasm for the event and strengthen Busan's urban image as the host city worldwide.
The Ministry of Industry explained, "This year's Dream Concert will feature top K-pop singers."
International conferences such as Business Summit and Leaders Summit will also be held at this International Climate Industry Expo. The government's plan is to actively ask world-famous figures or top-ranking officials attending the event to actively support the Busan World Expo.
